Who are we?

The Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS) is a specialized international technical agency with a permanent status that was founded in 1942 with the aim of promoting the development of social security in the Americas.

The CISS is comprised by 83 social security institutions from 37 nations of the American hemisphere, and they are divided into full members, associate members, related members and adherent members, depending on their institutional aim and their regulatory, administrative, managerial, supervisory, analysis or research responsibility in the field of social security.

Various bodies of the Conference meet annually to discuss current issues around social security in a context of dialogue and sharing of experiences and best practices.

The importance of the CISS as an inter-American agency lies in cooperation among countries beyond languages, resources, development and organizations to increase people’s quality of life through inclusive public policy.
